Ghana's New Land Act
August 05, 2020
The Land Act, 2020 was passed into law in July this year. It consolidates the existing laws on land and land administration into a single Act. It is aimed at harmonising these laws to ensure sustainable land administration and management and effective land tenure. The new Act, which is currently awaiting Presidential assent, brings innovation to the land administration regime as it introduces a few reforms including electronic conveyancing to make it possible to transfer, create or register interests in land by electronic means. It is expected that regulations will be made to augment its implementation as soon as it receives Presidential assent.
