CSIR to Amend Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Act, 1996 (Act 521)
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Act was enacted in 1996 to re-establish the Council for Science and Industrial Research (CSIR). The CSIR was designed to encourage national interest in scientific and industrial research for development in agriculture, health, environment, and technology and to regulate research and application of science and technology.
The amendment of the CSIR Act will establish a college for training in science, technology and electronics, a CSIR Biomedical Pharmaceutical and Public Health Research Institute, and a CSIR Engineering Research and Development Centre.
These amendments seek to prepare the nation to develop, pilot and evaluate emerging technological interventions to make strategic investments.
