Ghana takes action to combat climate change

October 31, 2019

The government of Ghana has announced steps it has taken to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country. Speaking at this year's Africa Climate Chance Summit held in Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo stated the country has implemented initiatives to produce at least ten percent of its energy mix from renewable sources by 2030.

He also highlighted the goal to install 200 megawatts of distributed solar power in both residential and non-residential facilities and the establishment of an advisory group to complement government on the efforts to alleviate climate change. Other measures include the ban on illegal mining and the employment of 20,000 youth to restore degraded lands across the country.
