Attending last week’s launch of Ghana’s newly integrated Toyota operation marked a milestone for our team, bringing to a close the work behind the transaction that created the platform. N. Dowuona & Company acted as legal advisors to Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Co. Limited (TTMG) on its acquisition of the Toyota and Hino distribution assets of Toyota Ghana Limited Company (TGLC).
The matter was led by NanaAma Botchway, Alexander Calloway, Gwendy Bannerman, with the support of Linda Lydia Lutterodt.
The transaction creates an integrated Toyota platform in Ghana by bringing local assembly together with nationwide distribution and after-sales support within a single operating structure. It also marks TTMG’s evolution from a primarily Tema-based assembler into a vertically integrated mobility business responsible for assembly, importation, distribution and after-sales.
The combined business now operates through nine branches and employs around 640 people, significantly expanding its reach across retail, corporate and institutional customers in Ghana.
This integration also strengthens the platform for product and technology roll-out in Ghana, including the planned introduction of additional Toyota models and the country’s first Toyota hybrid electric model, alongside enhanced digital and connected-services offerings. Over time, it is expected to support technology transfer, skills development and deeper localisation across Ghana’s growing automotive value chain, in line with Ghana’s automotive industrialisation agenda under the Ghana Automotive Development Policy.
CFAO Mobility, TTMG’s parent, has described the transaction as a key step in strengthening its regional leadership and deepening its presence in West Africa, with Ghana positioned as one of its core Toyota distribution markets. We expect this development to support further investment and localisation under the Ghana Automotive Development Policy, as incentives, infrastructure, and regulation continue to evolve to drive scale, competition, and long-term value creation in Ghana’s automotive sector.
We will continue to support clients investing across Ghana’s automotive value chain as the regulatory and incentive landscape evolves under the Ghana Automotive Development Policy, including on acquisitions, localisation strategies, licensing and commercial structuring.
